Location Management

Next Course Dates

22 September 2010 to 24 September 2010

A location manager's role is to imagine, find and clear a location which is 'perfect' for the needs of the script, the director and the unit. A perfect location is one where the director has the ability to shoot at 360º if required, with silence, while having all the facilities the unit is ever likely to need close at hand.

This course is aimed at people who wish to broaden their experience and knowledge in this absolutely vital area of production. The course covers:

  • The basic principles of location management and the skills
    involved
  • Day locations
  • Resident and non-resident locations
  • Foreign locations
  • Finding a location
  • Arranging the chosen site
  • Running the location on a day to day basis
  • The wrap - clearing up
An examination of the work involved will be further explained by viewing extracts from various films with specific location requirements and/or problems and discussing how they were made to work.

Each participant will also be given a series of practical exercises of finding and clearing locations, as well as doing the accompanying paperwork, including the preparation of Movement Orders.
