Sandy Welch

Sandy Welch is a distinguished writer of television dramas, many of which are adaptations of much-loved classic novels. Her screenplay for Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre (2007) was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Writing in a Mini-series, Movie or Dramatic Special. Before that she had shared in a Best Drama Serial BAFTA for her screenplay for Charles Dickens’s Our Mutual Friend and won an Edgar Award for Best Television Feature or Miniseries for her adaptation of Ruth Rendell’s A Dark Adapted Eye.

Welch’s other work includes literary adaptations of Jane Austen’s Emma and North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell and the original screenplays Magnificent 7 and Sweet Revenge. Her most recent credit is an adaptation of Henry James’s The Turn of the Screw, broadcast by the BBC in December 2009.
