UK Stars of Tomorrow accolade for NFTS directing graduate
Writer-Director David Stoddart (pictured), who graduated from the NFTS Directing Fiction course earlier this year, has been named by as a talent to watch by Screen International’s annual UK Stars of Tomorrow feature.
For the last seven years, Stars of Tomorrow has showcased the hottest new UK film talent on both sides of the camera, tipping the filmmakers and actors who will shape and dominate the industry for years to come. Months of viewings, script readings and painstaking research among agents, producers and other industry authorities, go into the selection, which has an impressive track record of picking winners.
Screen International comments that Stoddart’s graduation film, the coming of age story Solstice, shot around Oban in his native west Scotland, along with earlier films, “show a keen sense of place and atmosphere”.
David is now working on dark comedy about a boy with Asperger’s syndrome and his Scottish nationalist brother to be made for Scotland’s DigiCult, and is developing ideas for his debut feature.
