DIPLOMA COURSES
Production Management
This course is only open to UK and EEA applicants
12-month course; next intake September 2010
In film and television, there are few jobs that are changing faster than that of the Production Manager. From data management to delivering programmes on multiple platforms, the role of the Production Manager has expanded so widely that many PMs are now full partners in running companies, rather than being sidelined in middle management.
So what does it take to be a Production Manager? An individual who can do more than say ‘no’! Someone who is creative with budgets but keeps an sharp eye on the bottom line; someone who knows enough about Health and Safety to protect the cast and crew but not detract from getting the right shot; someone who knows about the best locations at the best price - and who knows production from start to finish!
Training on the job has traditionally been the way into production management but with a shortage of PMs in the industry, new routes into this important role have to be found. This new course combines intensive training with practical experience and could help put your career as a Production Manager on a faster track.
Career Progression
As a production manager, you could work for independent production companies or broadcasters on feature films, television drama of all kinds, documentaries, entertainment and factual programmes. Most production managers are freelance, moving from contract to contract, and may find themselves working anywhere in the UK, or even abroad.
New NFTS graduates are sought-after and typically find employment soon after completing their courses. NFTS alumni are some of the most successful people working in UK film and television today. Many of our students make contacts while at the NFTS which continue in the professional world.
